Have you ever heard of using olive oil as a cleaner? I know that it sounds super weird, however, olive oil can be extremely useful when dealing with certain household messes. I know most people use vinegar and baking soda as natural ingredients when cleaning their homes but today I will show you that almost any natural ingredient can be useful when cleaning!
How To Clean With Olive Oil?
– Clean Your Cast Iron Pan
If you have a cast-iron pan then you know how hard cleaning it is. You cannot use any soap or detergent because it will damage the surface. You also cannot throw the pan in your dishwasher because the high heat and the detergent will damage it – and you are left with warm water and a sponge (and if your pan is really dirty and has burnt food and greasy stains all over it, you can’t really remove those with only warm water).
I figured out a way to clean a cast-iron pan and still avoid any damage – and you only need olive oil and salt to do that! Pour a tablespoon of olive oil and sprinkle some salt in your pan then gently scrub the mixture with a brush or a sponge. Once you are ready, rinse with warm water – and all the impurities will fall off!
– Clean Stainless Steel Appliances
Another way to use olive oil as a cleaner is to clean your stainless steel appliances and bring back their shine! Pour a bit of olive oil on a cloth then buff it into the surface.
– Clean Rattan Furniture
If you have rattan furniture indoors or outdoors then you know you can’t simply clean it with a detergent – you need to use something gentle (and olive oil is perfect).
Pour a bit of olive oil on a cloth then wipe the rattan furniture!
– Polish Wooden Furniture
If your wooden furniture needs to be freshen up a bit then you can use a mixture of olive oil and white vinegar. I usually mix a tablespoon of olive oil and 1/2 tablespoon of white vinegar.
I dip a cloth in the mixture then rub the wooden furniture with it. Make sure you follow the direction of the grain of the wood!
